AfDB Opens Guinea Office
The African Development Bank (AfDB) has opened an office in Conakry, Guinea.
The opening was attended by Guinean President Alpha Condé and AfDB President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Adesina stated, "The opening of the country office is a crucial step in the cooperation between the Republic of Guinea and the African Development Bank."
"When we are present on the ground, we are able to work better with governments, deploy better tools to support the private sector, take a more active part in policy dialogue, and we are able to hear the voices of civil society and the public. In short, having a presence on the ground, makes us much more nimble and effective," he elaborated.
President Condé described the move as a great milestone for Guinea.
The bank supports a number of initiatives in Guinea including the Fomi Dam project. To date the bank has approved support to the country of approximately $1.7 billion.
