Dangote Refinery Delayed
The completion of the large Dangote oil refinery in Lagos, Nigeria, is set to be delayed until the end of 2020.
The project has faced challenges importing the various materials and equipment needed.
Once completed the refinery will be the largest of its kind in Africa, with the capacity to process 650,000 barrels daily.
Fuel production is expected to follow within two months of the project’s completion.
Recently appointed Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Mele Kolo Kyari recently set out ambitious plans to partner with the Dangote refinery under construction so as to transform the country into a regional fuel supplier. Kyari has stated his hopes that the NNPC can be the facility’s supplier of first resort.
Despite its vast oil reserves Nigeria is currently a net importer of petroleum products.
