Nigeria: NNPC and others donate medical supplies to South-west states
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and its Independent Petroleum Group (IPG) partners have donated six ambulances and other medical equipment to states in the south-west of the country affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
The donation is part of the ongoing Oil and Gas Industry Intervention Initiative to help tackle the outbreak of Covid-19, which so far has 873 confirmed cases across Nigeria.
Along with the six ambulances, the NNPC donated 2,500 face masks, 5,000 pairs of safety goggles and 5,000 protective body suits.
Lagos Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Chief Timipre Sylva received the donation on behalf of the state, which is currently experiencing its fourth week of lockdown in an effort to curb the spread of the virus.
Mr Sylva thanked the NNPC for its continued efforts to help combat the coronavirus and explained that the donation would be distributed across various states affected by the pandemic.
These include: Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Osun and Ekiti states.
The Chairman of IPPG, Adeyemi Bero, said that as well as supplying medical equipment, the group would also be making future donations to support infrastructure in the southwestern states.
