Sierra Leone Plans 7km Airport Connection

Sierra Leone has announced plans to connect its international airport to Freetown via a 7km bridge.

Currently the country’s only international airport is not accessible by road, but requires a boat or helicopter trip from the capital. The undertaking is expected to cost around $2 billion and take between four and five years to complete. It could be funded in part by a toll gate.

Speaking on the plans President Julius Maada Bio has stated, “I will closely superintend the entire process and ensure that every tender is compliant and every tender is in the best long-term interest of Sierra Leone.”

Maada Bio’s predecessor has previously announced plans to build a new $400 million airport closer to Freetown using Chinese funding.
