At least 15 killed in Mali night attack

Reports indicate that at least 15 people have been killed in an overnight attack on the village of Sinda, in the Mopti region of central Mali.

A security official told the AFP news agency that some of the victims had their throats slit. One local official blamed Dozo traditional hunters for the killings.

The village is a Fulani settlement near the town of Douzenta. Local correspondents say some communities perceive the Fulani people as being close to Jihadist movements in the country as the groups recruit from their villages.

Ethnic violence in the area has grown worse following the proliferation of armed Islamist groups. More than 150 Fulani people died during an attack last March, which was also blamed on militia from the Dogon ethnic group.
