Chinese miners among 43 people quarantined in Nigeria
43 people, including four members of a Chinese mining team, are being quarantined in Nigeria’s northern Plateau state to prevent the possible spread of coronavirus.
The state’s Commissioner of Information Dan Manjang told reporters that the isolated group will be observed for two weeks.
The four Chinese nationals, who arrived in Nigeria last week, are being quarantined in their lodgings near the city of Jos.
A further 39 Nigerians who have been in contact with the visitors have also been quarantined.
The news follows Nigeria’s first confirmed case of the disease last Friday. The patient is an Italian citizen who works in Nigeria and flew into Lagos from Milan.
On Monday the country’s Health Minister Osagie Ehanire said the government has tightened surveillance at the various points of entry into the country.
