Coronavirus cases rise sharply in Ghana

Ghana announced 73 new cases of the coronavirus on Tuesday morning, bringing the country’s total to 287.

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) said the increase was the result of “enhanced contact tracing and testing”.

The GHS also announced an end to the mandatory quarantine period for travellers who had arrived in the country between 21st and 22nd March, before the border were closed.

Around 1,030 people were quarantined during this period, 105 of whom tested positive in two separate rounds of testing.

The country’s Ministry of Information has tweeted a breakdown of the confirmed cases so far, including 5 deaths.
