Four West African countries receive Covid-19 donations

Pan-African logistics company Arise has donated an assortment of equipment to fight the coronavirus to four countries in West Africa.

The Gabon-based company donated 7 million masks, 143,000 sets of protective clothing and 230,000 boxes of disinfectant gel to Ivory Coast, Benin, Togo and Mauritania.

CEO Gagan Gupta said: “In the context of global shortages in critical medical supplies, we are providing a large shipment of medical equipment”.

The supplies were mainly manufactured in China.

The latest status report from the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention says the continent has just over 5,700 confirmed cases of Covid-19.

The worst affected country is South Africa, with 1,380 confirmed cases on Wednesday.
