Ghana plans to plant five million trees on Friday

Five million trees are being planted in Ghana on Friday in an attempt to restore the country's forests. 

All Ghanaians have been urged to take part. 

President Nana Akufo Addo has said he'll join in what will be an annual event. 

In a video statement he asked citizens to help preserve the environment by nurturing the saplings. 

Officials estimate that 80% of Ghana's forest cover has been depleted because of land degradation. 

The country is already feeling the impact of climate change. 

It's estimated that crop yields will diminish by 7% by the middle of the century.
