Ivory Coast reports first coronavirus case

Ivory Coast’s health ministry has reported the first case of coronavirus in the country: a 45-year-old Ivorian man who had recently been to Italy. 

The ministry said it had identified and followed up with those who had been in contact with the man. 

On Wednesday the World Health Organisation (WHO) categorised the coronavirus outbreak as a pandemic. 

WHO chief Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said he was “deeply concerned” by the “alarming levels of inaction” in response to the virus. 

He said the number of cases reported outside of China had multiplied 13 times over the past two weeks.
