Liberia clergy worried about alleged ritual killings
The Liberia Council of Churches has mounted pressure on President George Weah to speak to the nation in the wake of suspected widespread ritual killings.
In a news conference the religious body's president, Bishop Kortu Brown, reminded President Weah of his constitutional responsibility to engage with citizens and address their fears.
Terror has gripped the capital, Monrovia, with streets in the centre deserted in the evening.
The Independent Human Rights Commission has expressed concern about the situation and named the people whose bodies they say have been found under unexplained circumstances.
But police chief Patrick Sudue has dismissed reports of ritual killings as fake and exaggerated.
The killing of people and using their parts for ritual purposes has been associated with Liberian politics for decades.
