Liberia sends police to quell protests over killing

The authorities in Liberia have deployed security forces in the south- eastern city of Zwedru - on the border with Ivory Coast - after violent protests broke out.

Residents in the town took to the streets after a local man died days after fighting with a foreign businessman.

The situation turned violent when residents attempted to storm the businessman's home to avenge the death.

Eyewitnesses say the protesters became angrier when one of them was hit and injured by a police vehicle.

In a statement the government said calm had been restored in the city, but added that there had been looting in the city.
