Liberian missionary arrested for faking own kidnapping
A Liberian missionary has been arrested in Uganda after police accused him of faking his own kidnapping and demanding a 74 million Ugandan shilling ($20,000) ransom.
A police spokesman alleges that the missionary’s former workmate made a phone call pretending to be the kidnapper and demanding a ransom.
The head of the mission at the church then reported the Liberian national’s abduction on the evening of 2nd January, after which a search began.
However the missionary was soon discovered and arrested, along with a Ugandan, at their hideout, police spokesperson Fred Enanga has said.
Police say “The suspects are being charged with conspiracy, giving false information and demanding by menaces”.
Neither suspect has commented on the allegations.
