NCAA Bans Private Jets for Charter Operations

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has banned charter services with privately-registered aircraft with effect from 29th June.

The decision has been made in an effort to prevent the inter-regional spreading of coronavirus by passengers and crew, particularly between the highly infected Lagos and the remainder of the country.

The NCAA said that it would ground any aircraft when used for chartered flights and holds the right to revoke operating licenses for pilots failing to comply to the new restrictions.

Public attention has been brought to the issue of private aircraft flouting lockdown restrictions after rapper Naira Marley flew from Lagos to Abuja on 13th June to perform at a concert in the Nigeria’s capital.

The rapper’s blatant disregard for the rules of lockdown appalled many, and led to ExecuJet, the chartered airline service who flew Mr Marley, being indefinitely suspended from service.  The captain of the aircraft also was charged with a financial penalty.
