Nigerian customs find $8m hidden in car

Customs officers at Nigeria’s Murtala Muhammed International Airpot have intercepted over US$8m allegedly being smuggled out of the country.

The cash was found in large brown envelopes, hidden inside a car at the airport in the country’s business capital Lagos.

Two drivers working for a company at the airport were arrested after being caught moving the cash to be boarded onto an aircraft.

Customs officer Hameed Ali has stated the money was being moved in connection to a “money laundering syndicate assisting corrupt government officials”.

So far no bank has claimed ownership of the money and an investigation has been launched into its origin.
