Nigerian doctor dies from Covid-19

A Nigerian doctor has died from Covid-19 after contracting the coronavirus while treating a patient at his private clinic in Lagos.

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) said Dr Chugbo Emeka died on Wednesday, after being exposed to a patient with the virus who themselves died last Friday.

Dr Emeka was admitted to Lagos University Teaching Hospital on Monday but health workers were unable to save him. The 51-year-old suffered from asthma, which may have hampered his body’s ability to combat the disease.

The NMA has already asked the state governments in Nigeria to provide enough protective gear to all health workers.

The association also urged patients to be honest about their medical, travel and contact history in order to help doctors quickly identify potential coronavirus cases.
