Nigeria's Covid cases rise amid fears of third wave

Nigeria has recorded 505 cases of new Covid-19 infections and three deaths.

This comes as the government places at least six states on the red list over a possible surge and fears of a third wave.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says fresh infections were reported in 14 states with Lagos having the highest number of cases.

The surge in new cases has been linked to the highly contagious Delta variant.

So far the country has recorded 175,264 cases of infections while the total number of death is now 2,163.

Meanwhile, doctors in public hospitals are currently on strike over delay in payment of salaries and allowances as the country reopens isolation centres that were previously closed.
