The West African nation that fought and won in the fight against Ebola is now facing its second pandemic challenge in less than a decade. On the eve of Sierra Leone’s 59th Independence Anniversary the number of covid-19 patients reached 93, signalling an increase of 11 in just 48 hours.

As a result, the government has announced an indefinite extension of the nationwide partial lockdown which was due to come to an end today. Critics of the government are however concerned as to whether its constitutional for them to extend lockdown indefinitely, without seeking the approval of parliament.
