Which Instagram accounts should you be following?

Everyone needs a bit of light relief here and there, especially during times like these. And, with a lot of people with a lot more time on their hands, we thought we would bring together a list of our favourite accounts to follow on Instagram. Check it out.

1.     Aboki Tor Jar @fatherdmw55

Nigerian comedian Father, real name Mohammed, has burst onto the scene since covid-19 forced us into lockdown. Just a few weeks ago his skits went viral after appearing on the model Eva Apio’s Instagram. The pair seem to get on so well they’ve started hosting nightly live shows, attracting tens of thousands of viewers.

 Eva and The Aboki is the new reality show you need to tune in to to whirl away those lockdown blues.

2.     Hero Daniels @herodaniels

Another Nigerian comedian who’s started broadcasting daily live shows is Hero Daniels. His ‘Isolation Games with Hero’ sees celebrity guests play alongside regular users for cash prizes. What more could you want?

3.     Mike Solomon @justsolomon_

Content creator and social media influencer Mike Solomon is someone who’s used his pages to build his platform, and he’s clearly quite the talent. If you’re after a bit of light-hearted humour coupled with some pretty interesting stories, Mike’s your guy.

 A big fan of dub videos, you won’t be waiting long for the next upload or post to make you giggle.

4.     Sadio Mane @sadiomaneofficial

 Africa’s Player of the Year boasts 7m Instagram followers, who he usually keeps updated on all things football. From recent results and performances, to behind the scenes photos of training at Liverpool, this page has got it all for the avid football fan.

Though not the most active on social media, the Senegalese star has uploaded videos of this various fitness regimes. giving us a glimpse into how one of the world’s best players stays active during lockdown.

5.     Yemi Alade @yemialade

Afropop star Yemi Alade has one of the funniest Instagram accounts around. A prolific poster (she’s uploaded 12 times in the last 5 days!), the MY POWER singer will keep you entertained for hours on end.

Whether its YouTube clips or Tik Toks, Yemi’s got it all. She has some real foot-tapping stories as well.

6.     Burna Boy @burnaboygram

The African Giant is without doubt one of Africa’s greatest musical exports. His Instagram page is carefully choreographed with uniform borders surrounding stylish portraits. Snippets of song videos accompany updates on when he’s going live, Burna Boy’s page is a must for any self-respecting music fan.

7.     Everyday Africa @everydayafrica 

Armed with just an iPhone camera, Peter DiCampo and Austin Merrill started the international movement “Everyday Africa.” Their goal: photograph daily life in Africa and provide their 412,000 followers with a fresh perspective on the continent. Their subjects range from women carrying babies along a road in a suburb of Kampala, Uganda, to a taxi driver showing off his voting card during Nigeria’s elections.
