Caf has no plans to cancel matches amid virus fears

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has said it has no plans to alter match arrangements over the continuing spread of coronavirus on the continent.

Fears about the spread of the disease have prompted several sporting events elsewhere to be either cancelled, postponed or played behind closed doors.

Caf said in a statement: “We are not extremely worried but remain vigilant with regards to future matches and tournaments such as the Champions League, Confederation Cup and African Nations Championship in Cameroon”.

Qualifiers for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations are due to take place at the end of this month, while the African Nations Championship (CHAN) is scheduled to run between 4th - 25th April.

Cameroon's Minister of Public Health Malachie Manouda said on Friday that his government was also looking carefully at the spread of the disease after the country’s first confirmed case was reported earlier that day.
