Ghana appoints Charles ‘CK’ Akonnor as new head coach
The Ghana Football Association has appointed Charles ‘CK’ Akonnor as the new head coach of its national team. He replaces Kwesi Appiah as head of the Black Stars.
Akonnor recently joined the national team’s coaching staff, having previously coached two of the country’s best supported clubs: Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko. As a player he spent much of his career in Germany, playing for Fortuna Koln and Wolfsburg among other teams.
The GFA has also appointed a new coach for the women’s national team, with Mercy Tagoe taking the reins for the Black Queens.
The reshuffle comes after the GFA removed all its national team coaches earlier this month, including Appiah and all his assistants. The Association said the drastic move was in line with its “vision”, after new management took over in October of last year.
