23 Opposition Members Jailed in Sierra Leone
23 members of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) in Sierra Leone have been jailed following a skirmish in Hamilton village with Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) supporters last month.
They were also charged with property damage worth $50,000.
The ruling comes ahead of a by-election in the area scheduled for August 24. The by-election has been called following the invalidation of the election of APC candidate Kadie Davies last year based on allegations of fraud and irregularities.
The APC lost its parliamentary majority in May after the courts nullified the candidacy of several of its parliamentarians.
