Abiola Ajimobi is still alive, says spokesperson
Abiola Ajimobi’s spokesperson has dispelled rumours that Mr Ajimobi had died last night in an undisclosed Lagos Hospital of Covid-19.
The former governor’s spokesperson, Bolaji Tunji clarified that as of 9:00pm on Thursday Mr Ajimobi was still alive, but in a critical condition. Abiola Ajimobi had been taken into hospital weeks ago and is rumoured to have been fighting for his life.
Mr Ajimobi had been the former governor of Oyo State between September 2018 and March 2019. At the age of 70, two days before falling ill with Covid-19, he had been named the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress.
“I spoke with his family who are with him as of 9:00 p.m. and they said he is still alive,” Mr Tunji told press reporters.
Mr Tunji admitted, however, that “Nigerians should continue to pray to God to preserve his life and let him live long.”
Abiola Ajimobi had been formerly the Chief Executive Officer of the National Oil and Chemical Marketing Company, a subsidiary of Shell Oil. He left the oil sector in 2002 and entered politics the following year to be elected as Oyo State’s Senator.
His career in politics spans 17 years.
