Buhari Travels to Saudi Arabia For Talks
Having recently returned from the Russia-Africa Summit in Sochi, Russia, President Muhammadu Buhari has left for Saudi Arabia to attend the Future Investment Initiative (FII) conference in Riyadh.
The three-day event starts on Tuesday, 29th October, and will be titled ‘What’s Next for Global Business?’.
The FII is forms part of the wider Saudi initiative, Saudi Vision 2030, a sweeping set of social and economic reforms spearheaded by the kingdom’s presumptive leader, Mohammed Bin Salman.
More than 4,000 delegates are expected to attend 12 workshops over the coming few days, covering topics such as cities, energy, health, data, sports and travel, amongst others.
The president is expected to hold bilateral meetings with other heads of state on the side lines of the event, including Jordanian King Abdullah II.
Following the FII, Buhari will then fly to the UK for a ‘private’ trip for around two weeks, according to his spokesperson Femi Adesina.
Buhari has recently come under pressure from critics to curtail his travel, with many arguing these international trips abroad offer little tangible benefits as the country weathers economic and security troubles.
