Guinea opposition suspends protests for burials

Anti-government protestors in Guinea have suspended their demonstrations against President Alpha Condé in order to bury their dead.

Members of the opposition movement told AFP news agency they had suspended protests from 15 January to allow for the “calm burial of our victims and for Guineans to restock” basic supplies.

At least three people have died during recent demonstrations by the National Front for the Defence of the Constitution. The opposition alliance is protesting against President Condé’s suspected plans to amend the constitution in order to prolong his rule.

Previous protests against Mr Condé were broken up by government security forces, resulting in the deaths of 20 protestors.
