Liberia Hit By Protests

Liberians have this week returned to the streets of Monrovia to protest living conditions and rising prices, as well as corruption and mismanagement.

The demonstrations have attracted the participation of various civil society groups, some of which previously supported President George Weah’s election.

Under Weah inflation has risen and the economy has struggled, leaving many Liberians facing a deterioration in their living standards.

Police were deployed to stop the protestors who did not have a permit, with tear gas fired at the crowds.

Around 15 protestors were arrested.

The demonstrations follow similar #SavetheState protests on June 7.
