Nigerian emir replaced by predecessor’s son
The regional government in Kano state, northern Nigeria has appointed a new Emir, following the dismissal of the previous traditional ruler over a dispute with the state governor.
Aminu Ado Bayero - the son of a former emir - replaced Muhammadu Sanusi II after he was taken away from the palace by security forces.
Kano state said Muhammadu Sanusi II had disrespected the regional authorities.
Muhammadu Sanusi II became the emir in 2014 after being sacked as governor of the central bank, where he exposed massive corruption in the oil sector.
As emir he frequently butted heads with politicians and was critical of some government policies.
