Nigerian star Davido's uncle wins state governor vote

Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido says he's elated after his uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke, was elected as Ogun state's next governor in his second attempt.

Senator Adeleke won the seat on a ticket of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Davido was a key figure in his campaign in both the 2018 and 2022 governorship bids.

"Family is everything to me. Apart from that, we the best people for the job - give us one or two years and you will see what's up," the music star told BBC Pidgin from his hometown of Ede in south-west Nigeria.

He added on Twitter that it was time to be gracious in victory.

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Senator Adeleke on his victory, saying the "people of Osun have expressed their will through the ballot".
