President Buhari Submits Ministerial Selection To Senate
President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria has submitted his list of selected ministerial nominees to the Senate. The development comes nearly two months after he was sworn into office on May 29 having won the February 2019 elections.
The list details 43 proposed ministerial appointments, including several returnees such as Babatunde Fashola and Chris Ngige. It is not clear which individuals would be appointed to which positions. The list also featured seven women, including the former Minister of Finance Zainab Ahmad and sister of the immediate past Senate president, Gbami Saraki.
The list will now be subject to screening and a vote in the Senate. Parliament was due to break up for its annual recess later this week, however Senate President Ahmad Lawan has since announced a postponement of one week in order for them to conduct the process.
