92 Chadian soldiers killed in ‘deadliest’ Boko Haram attack

92 Chadian soldiers have been killed by Boko Haram militants in what the country’s president is calling the deadliest assault yet in the group’s five-year campaign.

President Idriss Deby visited the site of the attack in western Chad on Monday, close to the borders with Niger and Nigeria.

Boko Haram’s insurgency spread into Chad from Nigeria in 2015, leading to dozens of Chadian troops being killed and more than 1,000 civilians displaced by the fighting.

On Tuesday, 47 Nigerian soldiers were killed in an ambush by Boko Haram militants in the city of Maiduguri in the north-east of the country.

The insurgents attacked a convoy which was leaving the city with bombs and other ammunition supplies.
