Boko Haram have killed 35,000 In Nigeria According to the UN

It has been estimated that 35,000 people have lost their lives due to the ongoing Boko Haram insurgency. The UN agency themselves have lost 37 aid workers in the line of duty.

 

These figures were released by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), in commemoration of Humanitarian Day.

 

The UN statement noted;

 

"As I stand before you today, my thoughts also go to the families of our colleagues who are still being held captive by armed groups. The UN and its humanitarian partners call for their immediate release and return to safety.

 

"My heart also goes out to the families of the thousands of civilians who have been similarly abducted and whose whereabouts are still unknown," it said.

 

The UN specially acknowledged female humanitarian workers in the region, and the wok they have done to try and protect women and girls
