Burkina Faso: Four killed during ambush on police patrol

Police in Burkina Faso say four people have been killed and a further five injured during an ambush on a police patrol in the north of the country. 

Three of the dead were police officers. 

The attack happened on Monday at the Pissila-Gigba axis of the Sanmatenga province in Centre-Nord region, in the northeast of Burkina Faso. 

It follows an attack in the region last Tuesday in which three soldiers were killed near the Mali border.

Along with neighbouring Mali and Niger, Burkina Faso is struggling to contain an Islamist insurgency, which cased the deaths of over four thousand people last year.
