Malian migrants rescued from English Channel
Ninety people, including 15 children, have been rescued while trying to cross the English Channel on Thursday- a record figure for a single day.
The UK Home Office said the migrants included people from Syria, Yemen and Mali.
Border Force agents intercepted vessels in six separate incidents during the night, as well as detaining five suspected illegal migrants in centre of coastal city Dover at 11.20am.
Dover MP Natalie Elphicke has said a “fresh approach” was required and that the migrants should be returned to France, regardless of where they were intercepted.
Temperatures at the time were as low as 2C in the Channel and the migrants are now being treated by emergency services at the port.
