Nigeria reports biggest one-day rise in coronavirus cases

30 patients tested positive for the coronavirus in Nigeria on Tuesday - the biggest rise in cases the country has ever experienced in a single day.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) initially announced 19 new cases of the virus but then added a further 11 only an hour later.

The country has so far confirmed a total of 373 cases, including 11 deaths.

Of the 30 new cases, 25 were recorded in Lagos - Nigeria’s commercial capital and the epicentre of the pandemic in the country.

On Monday, President Muhammadu Buhari announced an extension to lockdown measures in the capital Abuja, Lagos and Ogun states by a further 14 days.

The initial lockdown of two weeks was due to end on Monday night.
