Supreme Court Justices Accuse Nigerian Electoral Commission Of Rigging

Two Supreme Court justices have accused the Nigerian Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of rigging the election of Gboyega Oyetola as Osun State governor.

The election was upheld by the court on a majority verdict of the seven-member panel. However, judge Kumai Akaas accused the INEC of rigging the poll, while judge Paul Galinje questioned the motivation behind the rerun.

The election of Oyetola, which took place in September 2018, was disputed by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Ademola Adeleke. While an Osun tribunal initially ruled in favour of Adeleke’s challenge, the Court of Appeal overturned to ruling in May.
